I, Steve Wallis, initially set the Network up in 2006 to argue for unity of revolutionaries within the Scottish Socialist Party. The idea of the Revolutionary Platform Network is for revolutionary socialists within a broad organisation to unite, to try to get it to adopt more revolutionary politics. At present, such revolutionary platforms only exist on the internet, but they may be established in the real world in the future and perhaps adopt democratically agreed particular political programmes (although I’d argue for them to be as inclusive as possible apart from rejecting dictatorial “Stalinist” politics). I see activists in many different organisations as playing important roles in the struggle for socialism, interacting with each other in the real world and on the internet, rather than there being one “vanguard” party that will lead a revolution. Although transforming Labour into a revolutionary socialist party would be difficult to say the least, it is naïve to expect one to arise without a significant split (whether of the left or the right).
I have set up websites and discussion groups (which you can access via email or the web) for the following Revolutionary Platforms:
These Revolutionary Platforms may be the nuclei of new organisations capable of uniting genuine revolutionary socialists with different views and from different traditions within broad left-wing parties.
This is a newsletter for the Revolutionary Platforms. I have also put them in Micro$oft Word and PDF format on the website so that anyone around the world who is inspired enough after reading them can produce copies for distribution. I have so far produced four editions (May 2006, September 2006, September 2012 and February 2013) plus two UK-specific updates to newsletter 4 in March 2013, and a further global update in April 2013, and a mainly UK-specific update in May 2013. Note the big gap between the second and third, when I instead produced many for the Foundation for PR-based Socialism (a non-party political virtual revolutionary socialist organisation I set up that argues for a form of socialism based on proportional representation by single transferable vote). Two previous forums got overrun by spam (due to the lack of sufficient CAPTCHA routines to identify human beings rather than web robots) and a third had connection errors, so I instead set up a new forum on Facebook. Go to www.facebook.com/RevolutionaryPlatformNetwork.
